Koster Islands
Koster Islands is one of Sweden's sunniest places and a paradise for nature lovers. The almost car-free islands outside Strömstad are located in one of the country's most unique marine national parks and have a nature reserve with a diverse animal and plant life both on land and in the sea.
Take the ferry
The popular islands of Nordkoster and Sydkoster are part of a larger nature reserve, and Koster boats operate daily from Norra Hamnen in Strömstad. The timetable can be found on Västtrafik's website, and during the summer, you can also travel between the islands using a staffed cable ferry.
Explore the islands
Koster Islands are best explored at your own pace. Here you will find several marked hiking trails that bring you close to nature. On Nordkoster, there are shorter loops of about five kilometers. Don't miss the well-known stone fields with their round stone formations and the view from the lighthouse at Högen, the highest point of Koster Islands.
You can also experience the area from a bicycle and roll through beautiful landscapes. Bring your own bike or rent one – there are several rental places in Ekenäs, Kilesand, and Långagärde.
Kayaking and snorkeling
Kosterhavet National Park offers world-class kayaking. The best time to paddle is during spring and late summer when the sea is calm and birdlife is peaceful. Throughout the area, there are spots where you can stop for short moments and take refreshing swims. Several local operators offer kayak rentals with options for lessons and guided day tours.
Locally produced food
In addition to fresh fish and seafood, you will find several local farms and small shops on Koster Islands. They offer locally produced raw materials and crafts such as vegetables, fruit, and meat from the island's own producers.
Welcome to Koster Islands, a place for genuine nature and taste experiences.
